In April 1983, Casio launched its first Casio G-Shock watch. The Casio G-Shock GA-100GBX-1A4
was designed to drop from the top of a building without breaking. This new G-Shock watch was unique in its design. While many manufacturers designed thinner and lighter watches, Casio had developed a bulky and shock resistant watch. Casio had defined a new category of watches without a competitor in this type of niche product. Over the next ten years, these larger watches became fashionable and were searched worldwide. The solid nature of Casio’s G-Shock brand, along with increasing functionality, attracted sports enthusiasts, manual workers and those with an adventure streak.
